2014 Shelley Youth Baseball Fall League Information

• Dates: August 23, 2014 - October 4, 2014 (October 11 - makeup day if needed)

• Format: 12 Game Schedule – 6 weeks of Saturday Doubleheaders

• Ages: 18u / 16u. Open to any player age 18 / 16 or younger as of May 1, 2015.

• Registration Deadline: July 31, 2014

Shelley Youth Baseball Fall League is a part of the Rocky Mountain School of Baseball organization.  Game schedules, rules, and umpires are under the direction of RMSB. This league may require some TRAVEL! We may have to travel to Utah for some of our games. Last year travel was very limited, we only played one Saturday in Utah, but we do not know how the schedule will play out. We will car pool to any out of the area games. By pooling rides we should be able to get everyone to the games even if some parents are not able to go. All games are Saturday doubleheaders. We do not plan on attending any additional tournaments for fall 2014.

We will be playing in the 18u and/or 16u division(s) depending on the age and number of players who sign up. Many schools in our area have only one team so they play in the upper division so they can have players of various ages on a single team. We will win some and probably lose some games because of the age differences in some of the teams we will play. My goal is for every player on the team to improve their skills over the fall season. Some players will require more instruction than others. More experienced players must be willing to help others on the team if needed to improve the team as a whole.

To keep costs as low as possible we are planning to use the same uniform shirts we used for fall 2013 and the hats used for high school / Babe Ruth / American Legion summer 2014 leagues. Players will need to provide their own gray baseball pants, red socks, and red belt. If you do not have a uniform or what you will need to purchase them. Costs for all items are outlined on the registration form.

The League will begin, Saturday August 23rd. Saturday, August 30th is a league-wide bye week for the Labor Day weekend. The fall program is intended as an opportunity to prepare players for the spring and summer of 2014 season. The Fall League is a preparatory and instructional time with the focus being on player development. Teams do not need to report scores and no standings are kept for the Fall League.

BBCOR bats are required in 2014 Fall League for the 18u and 16u age divisions. This is to coincide with the High School bat requirements.

Wow!  What a game last night.  Shelley Black played the #1 seeded Bonneville 1 team closer than anyone has all season. The game ended in a loss for Shelley, but was a close, exciting game.  Way to go, gentlemen!

Games tonight

All three Babe Ruth teams play tonight, as well as our Cal Ripken AAA and A Black.  Good luck to all the Shelley boys on the diamond tonight.

Great practice tonight

Varsity and JV Black had a great practice tonight.  All the players learned a lot about fielding and field communication, did some long-toss, and had a great time doing it.  That's what happens when everyone stays focused and works hard.  Thank you, Coach Beal, Coach Gallup and all the players that came out.  Nice job, gentlemen!

Varsity game reschedule

Since the Varsity team will be missing so many players Thursday evening, we have cancelled our game vs Idaho Falls.  We will reschedule for either Tuesday the 10th or Thursday the 12th of June.  Please let us know if you have a preference between the two dates.

Parent Meeting Monday

There will be a brief parent meeting Monday at 5:15 before the game at 6:00.  It is important that at least one parent be there for each player.  The meeting will be behind our team's dugout.

Hitting clinic on Wednesday

Any player who wants to improve hitting ability should attend the Legion Spring Hitting Clinic on Wednesday, May 21st from 4:30 to 9:00.  Players should arrive at 4:00.  Price is $75, but if you preregister online it's only $60.  When it asks about a Legion player that assisted you with information about the camp, please be sure to list the Shelley Legion player's name and then "from Shelley."

Shelley Red plays Shelley Black tonight at Freeman Park at 6:00.  Anyone that is able should put on their Shelley gear and head over to the park for a great night of baseball!  Remember, it's all about those boys on the field.  Let's show these young men the support they deserve.
